As mentioned in a topic, a goof friend of mine diagnosed with EBMD (epithelial basement membrane distrophy) after konjuctivitis almost lost his vision on one eye (0.15). EBMD and dry eye were treated with conservative methods, nothing could help. Now, PTK (laser) was recommended to remove defective parts (epithel and basement membrane). How risky would be a PTK (surface defect until basement membrane) ? Does anyone know surgery-free treatments ? I told him about decorin gellan gum eye drops , but maybe someone here knows more. He is very scared and i m in worry about him. If anyone knows possibilities to cure /improve EBMD plus corneal opacity induced visus reduction, PLEASE write down. THANKS

Need HELP : Epithelial Basement Membrane Dystrophy after Infection

Good Morning BasarDeBersaq,
Here at the Macular Society, we know about conditions that affect the macula which is at the back of the eye. Your friend has an eye condition that affects the front of the eye so we cannot give advice that can help you.
Someone here may have personal experience and be able to share their story with you, but it might be a good idea to also get into contact with the RNIB on
03030 123 9999
or via their email address: helpline@rnib.org.uk
They cover all sight loss conditions and can give advice for your friend.
All the best,
Becky
