Hospital appointment: I have a hospital... - Macular Society
Hospital appointment
I would say yes as this is an essential procedure. I intend going for my next one in 4 weeks time.
You're lucky. I have my next one on 2 April and have been told that the one after that will be eight weeks - I have been having them every four weeks because of leaking behind the macula and voiced this to the person who rang me from the hospital today. She said she understood but unfortunately cannot do anything about it.
Is this because there are no earlier appointments? If it is I usually ring them every couple of days to see if they have had any cancellations. I think they must get fed up of me because I usually manage to get an earlier one
Yes as it's an essential treatment
I would ring them and ask because yesterday all three of our local hospitals in the Cambridge area were ringing all their outpatients and cancelling appointments (including mine) as they sere getting ready for the Coronavirus onslaught.
Hello MikeG1944,
Was your appointment for an injection?

I had my Lucentis injection last week as scheduled - the hospital (NHS) sent me the usual text message a few days before confirming the appointment. I have my next appointment booked for May. The eye clinic confirmed that as this is classed as an essential treatment it will continue as scheduled.
Yes. I had my injection just over a week ago. My ophthalmologist had canceled all non-essential procedures and all surgeries, but she was still providing injections. My vision usually starts fading after six or seven weeks, and I was so grateful. There was someone at the doorway taking everyone's temperature. The waiting room was almost empty; there was no testing or imaging, just the procedure. It was the fastest visit ever!
The fastest visit ever, is good news. I have injection appointment tomorrow and the taxi driver charges £40 an hour waiting time.
Wow that's steep! I get two separate taxis, call for homeward one once I get out. What's also good is my hospital has a freephone in the lobby direct to local taxi co. so no struggling to see numbers on mobile ( it's like a psychedelic trip lol).
Glad u got your inj xxx
It didn't turn out badly after all. £45 for the journey and only £15 for the waiting time. If he had gone back to his base and come to pick me up again, it would have been £45 each way. When you take a short journey, you are not always aware that you pay for them to get back to base. xx
Suddenly I feel very lucky my two trips 7miles down the road only cost me around £15 each way inc tip, but then I guess I live pretty central. Glad u got your inj x
I have spoken to the hospital today and was told that unless things change and I receive a text stating otherwise to attend. Thank you everyone for all your responses it really helps to hear from others and is appreciated
