Hello all, I have noticed that occasionally when I am trying to fall asleep in a dark room I see a small solid black shadow in my eye, that fades quickly. I’ve also woken in the night to see it. I thought it could be a after image, but does not happen straight after I have looked at light. It’s not there all the time, and I’ve had several dilated eye exams from my ophthalmologist (I am a glaucoma suspect) but he said everything looks good. Does anyone know what this is?

Black spot when eyes are closed
Hi Sadgirl92; this sound like a cataract to me; I have one in the right eye and I get the same; a dark patch, fuzzy at the edges. It's not usually noticeable in bright light. It's easily curable these days; I'm on the waiting list to have mine done. Hope that helps. Mike.
Hi Sadgirl92. I also get dark patches in a dark room just after I have gotten into bed (my husband gets it also). If I open and close my eyes for a while it's there but after a time, it has disappeared. We both had our eye tests a couple of weeks ago and mentioned it to the optometrist but he had no explanation of what it could be. We thought maybe, as we have a small light on outside the bedroom on the landing, that it could be to do with that but other than that, we have no idea what it can be. Maybe it's where the eye is slow is registering going from light to dark???? If you find out what is causing it, I would be interested to know. x
It could be an eyelash!
