I have taken advantage of the 6 months free trial to the Macular Society, I have received my information pack, which included a magazine. What an interesting read, full of tips, help, positive articles and all the research that is going on to find a cure for AMD. I’m so glad I have joined.

It’s great if you have AMD with so many articles about AMD and money spent in research for a cure. If you have any other Macular disease it is a hard read as you only read about research and money being spent on AMD and no other Macular disease I have DMO and am relatively young compared to many AMD sufferers and yet not one penny has ever been spent by the Macular society on research for my condition. Mind you it’s more known as the AMD society then the Macular Society. Things are slowly changing sometimes they even have articles on other Macular diseases though this is quite rare.
Hi tallyho,
I have been reading about diabetic macular oedema, and I realise just how devastating and insidious its effects can be. It is not easy to remain positive, and despite my having AMD, even though certain research is ongoing, there is still a very long way to go. I did read recently, that money had been taken out from certain areas of the NHS, the mental health sector, plus the ophthalmic centre. I have a husband who suffers from bi-polar disorder, and last October he had another major manic episode. It took me 11 days to try and get him admitted into a mental health hospital. No one basically wanted to know, and both, my husband, and myself, spent 11 days, and 11 nights, without sleep before someone begrudgingly got my husband into hospital. 2 months spent in a mental health facility, when prompt help would have lessened the impact of any long term damage, which he has now sustained. I understand, that being younger is much more difficult for you, as people generally expect to develop serious health conditions at a later age. You mentioned that you had been tested for Myasthenia, if I am correct? And that is a really devastating condition, as my daughter developed Myasthenia Gravis at the age of 11. There is no cure for that condition either. I do understand how disheartening, and devastating it must feel for you and wish that all eye conditions could be funded equally. Best Wishes
