Gas bubble injection

I had an in-office gas injection in my eye for a macular hole. My eye burns and tears so much that I can’t stand the pain. Anybody else has had that done and experience this kind of pain and have any ideas how to help the burning to go away?

Sorry, no idea about the procedure you had so dont want to suggest anything but try calling or emailing the macular society who will probably have good advice for you.

Hope you feel better soon.

This is news to me. I have a hole in my left eye but all they do is check it every couple of months.

I was told that if you don’t get it fixed right away that it will get bigger and you’ll Lose sight in the eye. All you’ll see is a black circle. My other eye had a # 4 macular hole and had to have surgery to fix it with a gas bubble. This eye wasn’t as bad but was progressing so he wanted to try a simpler procedure. Pain is now gone and I’ll go back in a week to see if it worked.

Thank you so much for your reply. I will ask about the hole when I go next month. Glad your pain has subsided.

I am so sorry for you. That burning eye pain and streaming tears is really excruciating. Have you contacted your eye clinic about this? I know it's Bank Holiday weekend. Sh1t always happens when everyone isn't there because of the hols.!! If all else fails go to A&E, or emergency/out of hours GP. See above posts re anaesthetic drops, which will bring you great relief. Like eyesright and Tetrazzini I know nothing about the procedure you had done, but am an eye injection veteran. I (quite honestly), have lost count of the number of injections I have had; and am very familiar with the post injection pain you describe.

As discussed in the above post re anaesthetic drops I can't speak too highly of their success in relieving this pain. However there are also a lot of soothing drops. The ones my clinic hand out is Systane (Alcari). Good luck! Let us know how you get on!xx

Is this the gas bubble where u have to look down for several days

Not this one. The first macular hole I had surgery and they put in a gas bubble where I had to be in a head down positioning for 5 days. This eye, was where the hole just started, but still a hole. He wanted to try inserting a smaller gas bubble with a needle in to the eye and see if this closes the hole before it gets worse and I would have surgery. so no face down positioning with this one, just have to sit in a chair and put my head all the way down and back all the way up, for 3 times an hour (so not bad at all). i go back this Friday to see if it worked, if not, then surgery.
