Hello! I'm new here, but this 'Post' page does not work with my computer 'low vision' mode. Why not? I can't really see what I'm doing, so hope not too many mistakes! I have macular atrophy in my left eye, and degeneration in my right eye. I've had cataracts removed from both eyes (over a 7 year period) - but no-body ever told me I had macular degeneration! Even when they finally did, just a year ago, there was no mention of anything I could do about it. I found out about supplements myself, and am taking AREDS2 formulation 'Oftamac Plus' for it. I do have varying degrees of mistiness from day to day, which I assume is a symptom of AMD, and wonder if diet affects this? I find cheese seems to, making mistiness worse the following day, and apples too, of all things. Cooked fruit seems OK, but not raw. All hints and tips welcome! Thank you.

Hello kevinaki, and thank you for the links, which indeed confirm my beliefs - including my own observation that cheese may be unwise. Although I have never been told that mistiness is a symptom of AMD, I think it must be! I am also interested in observations made by people with AMD as to any effects they have noticed with particular foods. Or any time delays between eating it and the resulting symptom. Unusually for me, I have eaten red meat 3 times in the past 6 days - and today I have pronounced mistiness - so it may be a build-up effect? But yesterday I had baked salmon on cous-cous with lightly steamed spinach - all very good - and I'm waiting to see what happens tomorrow. I don't know if others experiment similarly, but if they do there's a fund of real knowledge right there. Not all people will react in the same way, perhaps, but evidence will accumulate as to who benefits from what as time goes on.
Fatty fish always the healthy option. As far as the eye/retina is concerned, we should avoid UV light in conjunction with it, since the two together tend to produce the detrimental substance CEP (carboxyethylpyrrole).
I'm in New Zealand and have dry in both eyes. I take Macutec once daily and have blueberries for breakfast. Eat lots of spinach. I'm seeing the specialist on the 12th June.
