At the beginning of my third trimester of pregnancy I developed central serous retinopathy in my left eye, age 39. I was told to wait it out until 1-2 months postpartum since it usually resolves itself at this time, but was still over 4 months of fluid on my retina and I had a great worsening of things right after delivery. 1 month after though, despite no resolution of visual symptoms, OCT showed the fluid was gone, so I was sent on my way and told I could have permanent retinal damage. For me this had been the appearance of an inner and outer bubble in my vision when blinking, darker residual scotoma in the top half of the inner bubble, metamorphopsia and blurriness in dark areas and micropsia in clear areas leading to perpetual distortion in stereovision.
I'm now 2.5 months postpartum and in the dark last night noted a new bright scotoma that appears as a partial arc further out from the central scotoma. This has of course freaked me out and I'm wondering if this could be a new episode or if it's possible to get these sort of changes after the fluid is gone? I will of course contact the doctor but I'm curious to hear what sort of after-effects those afflicted by CSR experience and if the visual defects resolve over time for you, stay the same, or can get worse despite not having fluid leakage?
This was my first child and I don't think I can have another with this condition, this permanent damage is terrible.
