"Can - C" Eye drops for cataracts and AMD

I was diagnosed with dry AMD last November and also cataracts in both eyes.

My vision is still quite good but am taking steps to put off deterioration - supplements etc.

I wondered if anyone had experience of Can-C drops for cataracts? I wondered if they might make the AMD worse if I used them for the cataracts?

I am new to this feed - any advice would be appreciated!

There appears to be no real evidence they are of benefit in the reversal of cataract. Just eat well.

I have attached a link to a paper:

Thank you Wheezyl. I am eating my spinach etc and taking Lutein, Vit A, Vit E , copper, zinc etc. I wasn't too sure about the drops but have read that having cataracts done can be a problem with the AMD? Normally cataracts are operated on successfully but doesn't sound so straightforward if you have AMD.

I'll follow the link - thanks for your help.

The study confirms that there is no convincing evidence that they are effective - I have printed a copy off and will see what my optician thinks. Thank you for the info.

Dear udall24,

If you are under a retinal specialist, it would be worth discussing your concerns with them. If not, you could always request a referral to one via your GP to discuss this and your cataracts in general. It is important that it is a retinal specialist who e.g. makes the decision on whether it is safe to remove your cataracts.
