anyone out there have to support a partner with macula degeneration
Hello Doormat,
There is a lot of help and support available in the UK, it is a question of knowing where to find it.
Please call the Macular Society helpline on 0300 30 30 111 (9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday) and they should be able to help.
In the meantime, have a look at our leaflet called 'Supporting Someone with a Macular Condition' at the following link;

Best wishes

Hi there I am of working age and attend a local Macular society group which is really supportive there are groups for retired people too. They are great to get face to face support from, there might be one in your area
I was just wondering if you actually felt like a 'doormat' before the diagnosis? You don't say if your husband is registered blind or if receiving treatment . I would seriously try to get him to do as much as possible for himself . . .like a challenge. My brother became very depressed about sight loss (unlike me and other brother treatment was not available). and looking back I wish I'd helped him to do much more for himself rather than doing things for him. Hopefully there is a local support group to help both of you cope. Best wishes.
