Hi Promtheusa3b,

Your visual acuity measure will have been taken by a eye hospital or an optician. They should be able to tell you what it is.

It is expressed as a measure of a figure over a base of 6.

6/6 being normal vision; the figure 6 is a measure in metres; you would have heard of the phrase '20/20 vision'; this is the same as 6/6 only the '20' is feet. Someone with poor vision with have an acuity of say 6/24. This means that someone with vision of this level would have to stand 6 metres from the eye test chard to read it, when a person with good 6/6 vision would be able to see it from 24 metres.

I hope this explains it.

Best wishes

My father only found this out when he received his copy of letter to his GP from the hospital.
