Lens implants have been around for several years now. They should only be considered for someone who has 'dry' macular degeneration or 'wet' which has been stable for at least 3 months. We are told that few people are actually suitable. An initial assessment will need to be carried out. A consultant ophthalmologist will look at the condition of your eyes and also use a telescopic simulator which should establish whether the procedure will be helpful for you.

Three types of intraocular magnifying aids are currently available. Although the optics underlying the devices are complex, they work on standard telescopic principles.
