Looks as though you need to claim ESA - but you should be able to claim JSA in the meantime unless you have a partner who is earning, I think.

i believe because of these "new changes" unless ur in the support group then from what i can gather you will only be allowed one year on esa then jsa afterwards but like maggies says is you have a partner that is earning then you will only get your ni contributions paid hope this helps im no benefit expert but i find paul at lupus uk is very knowledgable

Your local council adult services section should have a Welfare Benefits Advisor. If you contact them they will come to your home and go through all you options benefit wise, they will help you apply for what you are entitled to and, if need by, they will even help you if you need to appeal a decision.

Hi, just to let you know I was put on income related esa for 18mths. I was on sickness benefit for 4 years prior to. I have never had to submit to a medical as I've sent documents from my consultants and im considered to have mild neuropsychiatric lupus with lupus anticoagulant. I'm under St Thomas' as well as my local hospital rheumatologist. Even the job centre guy was surprised I had been given 18 months, so it is possible. Good luck xx
