How do people tell the difference between a flare up and a virus? I worry that I might be assuming the wrong thing a lot of the time!

I work on if I have a temperature, it's probably a virus, if I don't, it's probably a flare!
Saying that, a virus can cause a flare with me, so it's more "do I have a virus as well?" is the question.
Deciding whether you have a new problem as well as the SLE is often a big problem - I ignored a pain in my side and ended up in hospital with a kidney infection...
Good luck,
Jennie
Hi Jennie, I have a low grade temp. alot when I have a flare up. I have had this for 4 years and I always have alot of blisters in my mouth. I have had lots of flare ups. when I do end up in the hospital sometimes they put me on antiobiotics. I just asume its lupus.
Hi chicklette. It is hard to tell the difference between a flare and virus. I usually get a temp but best to go to go and get checked. I know it can be a pain sometimes to keep going ?? keep smiling x
Thanks girls. I'm still fairly new to this, having only been diagnosed 2 years ago, although think I've had SLE for a few years before that. I've just moved to a new gp who seems more inclined to listen to me and take me seriously, so that's good news! I also have underactive thyroid, depression and asthma, which the new gp says are linked as they're all auto-imune diseases. Such fun! I'm interested to know how others cope as I still tend to feel that I'm making a fuss when I need to rest, so don't say anything. I think I don't want to be seen as 'the sickly one'!
