Hi there.

I'm sure we've all had variable experiences with our rheumies but mine has been brilliant. She listened to my list of symptoms on my first visit, asked questions, examined me and performed tests. She was honest with me in that she knew I had Sjogren's, thought there may be an SLE overlap, but understandably didn't jump to conclusions.

She monitored me closely, got me on the right treatment and diagnosed SLE once she was certain. Fair enough. I've done exactly what she has asked me to do; she explains test results, treatment plans and so on.

These days I'm very well and fit and active. I trust my rheumy and am grateful for her care and expertise. She is not a quack!! Things haven't always gone smoothly but I've always understood what's going on and how I can get better, and I think understanding is half the battle.

I hope your appointment goes well. Try to be open minded. Be well prepared with a concise list of symptoms, how things impact you, what your pain levels are like and when, and so on. Good luck.

Hi I have had a very similar experience to lupylass, I have no bad words to say about my rheumy or nurse specialist. I actually feel like I'm in top of this, and gave amazing support whenever needed. my gp on the other hand is a totally diff story even getting repeat prescriptions is a nightmare! Stay positive and strong, just be honest and tell them how ur feeling, what ye struggling with, about ur pain and they will look after you. Good luck x

Hi suemac - I would go with a list of your symptoms however relevant you think they are - they tend to go out of your head once you're in there! Mine was good but as I was given a short notice appointment I wasn't as prepared as I could have been. He asked all sorts of my previous medical history, current symptoms etc.

Still haven't had definite diagnosis but loads of blood tests, medication to try. I haven't had all symptoms so he's a bit confused as to what I do have but as long as it's being treated I don't mind.

Good luck with your appointment x
