Hi! I wrote 3 weeks ago about MCAS and got good responses. My tests for gastrin and serotonin came back and ruled out carcinoid tumors which is good. However, my serotonin level is quite low. I think this can be a factor in MCAS and did find some mention in lupus as well. The past week, my intestinal symptoms have been much worse. During an episode, the diarrhea has been explosive, more nausea, chills, irregular heart be, lower pulse, higher blood pressure, mild headache, back pain. I fit a lot of MCAS, but I don't think I have flushing. My doctor sent me a message saying he does not know about low serotonin. He is willing to listen, but I don't know how to direct him. Also so my rheumatologist lowered my methotrexate and wondering if that has made it worse. All help would be much appreciated. Also, any groups like this for MCAS. Afraid to go anywhere because these come on suddenly.
Thank you.

I'm also sorry I can't help you with your Serotonin question but I thought the link to the Mast Cell Action charity might help.
I also suggest trying to find online some research papers. Prof Seneviratne (Royal Free Hospital London) is a great expert on this subject and would be good to consult if you are able.
There are also helpful YouTube videos by the US expert Dr Ann Maitland and a book which you can buy online for patients by the US doctor who had been at the forefront of MCAS research Dr Lawrence Afrin.
Do you take an antihistamine? The OTC ones are H1 blockers but you might need an H2 blocker or even H3.
