I am on 200mg of Hydroxy a day since March and has in the last month I am feeling so sick all day and have been up being sick through the night. I contacted my GP and he didnt have a clue ? "What do you think is making you sick " " Have you tried taking anti sickness tablets "

I contacted my dermatologist and she requested I get my bloods done again, so waiting on the result of that.....

It's not a nice feeling 🤢

It could be the filler ingredients on the hydroxychloroquine. Or it could be a bug. You could stop taking the hydroxychloroquine for a few days and see if your stomach issues subside. Then start taking the hydroxychloroquine again and, if the stomach issue return, you know it’s the medication.

Do you know if you receive the same brand of hydroxychloroquine every time? I can only tolerate name brand Plaquenil. Any others and I have bad stomach issues. I’m sensitive to filler ingredients. It could be the same for you.

Thanks milkwoman

I have been on Black Rock, Quinoric and now Plaquenil. I did ask the dermatologist if I could cut back my dose and take every other day while keeping an eye on my skin for rashes starting. I got crazy bad headaches on Black Rock and very very sick with Quinoric. My first 2 months on Plaquenil were good then the nausea started to appear.....I will see what the blood test shows and I also made a eye test appt to see about what's causing the headaches.

Fingers crossed I can find something that explains my symptoms. 😐

I'm really surprised that your doc didn't give you an anti sickness tablet for first few weeks as this is one of the most common side effects of Hydroxy! As some of the others have said, Plaquenil brand tends to be easier on the system but in UK Zenteva and Blackrock make generic brands that the NHS are happy to prescribe and contain same sort of formulation. I have 'zenteva only' written on my scripts and take 400mg a day for the past year. First few weeks I felt ghastly until I was prescribed metoclopramide for the sickness which significantly helped the sickness and upset tummies. It took a full three months til the hydroxy settled my immune system and I still have flares, but nowhere near as bad or as prolonged. Have a chat with your gp and ask for anti sickness tabs, then try to persevere if you can as things will get better. I have zero tummy upset or nausea now

Thank you Tintinhull, I have zero faith in my GPS. I get no help from them. I attend with a flare up skin sores etc and doctor said it was Roseacea....im like " No its clearly not, refer me to Dermatology". It was another lupus sore and I asked the dermatologist to send my doc an email. He had nothing to say....I feel I have to fight to get any help. Don't think they know what to do with Autoimmune patients😪

So about your name mistake, predictive text and all that...😟

No worries. I dare say almost everyone with an autoimmune disorder has suffered the same difficult journey to diagnosis and even afterwards. Keep persevering and don't be afraid to advocate for yourself xx
