Hi there, this is a problem for quite a few lupus sufferers. Sjorgrens is a cause, due to dry mouth etc.. Also your jaw is a joint, which can get inflamed like any other part of your body. It is a very painful condition to put up with, and I too have it with earache. Your meds, especially steroids, should bring it under control, but see GP incase it's caused by something else..eg..stones in saliva glands. Hope it goes soon.

what a dope I feel, i had this last winter for about 2 months and was sure it was connected to my lupus but couldn't figure it out. of course the jaw is a joint. glad you solved it for me. my GP sent me to an ear clinic which turned out to be for tinnitus [which I do have] totally useless for my problem which had resolved itself by the time my appointment came.

Hello Hunnie 707, See your dentist, this is classic temporomandibular inflammation, (painful jaw bone). Do you grind your teeth at night? or clench your jaw in the day without thinking? It is usually due to an uneven bite, and can be treated by making you a gumshield like boxers wear, only you wear this at night, you need a rigid plastic one.

I had this problem for a long time, my dentist suggested this and it was like magic overnight, the only time it hurts now is when I forget to wear it. It cost me £60 for the shield plus dental costs, which was worth every penny. I hope you get it sorted because its miserable, we don't need any extra pain.

I have TMJ syndrome, which is jaw pain. I went to an ENT because my ear hurt also, and I was told at that time that my jaw was causing my ear pain. He suggested I go to a dentist who specializes in TMJ, which I did. He made a special mouthpiece that I wore during sleep, and during the day while at home. This relieved my jaw so much and worked beautifully! I had not been diagnosed with Lupus at that time so had no clue that inflammation could be from Lupus. But whatever the cause, it worked! Hope this helps.

My soreness just started 2 days ago. But now it's getting to the point of straight shooting pain when I bite down. On my right side of my jaw and almost up to my ear. Help.... who and what kind of Doctor should I go see????

I'm getting scared now. Don't know what to do?
