Yes i have taken it for 9 years, until i was very ill and was in hosiptal i nearly died my kidneys stop working, what was said that it because of the drug for i was on it too long, which suppress my system too much that they did not see the others problems that was happening because the drug seemed to hide all that, i was feeling great for along time but i think the docs did not reveiw my medication as i was told that it only should be used for few yrs not as long as i was taking it. But dont worry to much about the side effects as you may not get any or only some but if you get them let your doc know so that he can reveiw your meds.

Hi, I started taking it 4 weeks ago and like yourself, had strong reservations.

It was prescribed by my rheumy, so called my GP and asked what he thought, I was honest and told him what I had read about it and I didn't like the thought of taking it.

He told me, that I had to weigh up the risks....the 'risk' of the pills against the 'facts' of the SLE.

So I took them and to be honest, I've found the first three weeks horrific. This might just be me and the way my body reacted, we are all different, I also don't bode well with medication...(amitriptyline for pain at 10mg sent me nutty after 10 days and I had to stop taking it lol)

But I'm at the end of week 4 and starting to feel better....although I'm not too sure what 'normal' feels like anymore.

But I started taking with the view to see how it went and if not I would stop and say no, all the things I've read say the first 3 months are the worse, so I'm feeling kinda lucky that im getting to the end of the tunnel x

HI, I've been taking it for 3 years and have had no proplems since my initial diagnose (touch wood!). The first few weeks were the worst. I was origianally prescribed 100mg, which made me sic, I got over this by taking one tablet in the morning and one in the afternoon. I'm now on 50mg and have no side effects at all x

Hello! I was nervous about taking this too but after 5 years of trying different combinations of drugs and not feeling any better i have to say this felt like a wonder drug to me. Everyone is different but after sooooo long being on a high dose of steriods it is only since taking Azathioprine i have been able to reduce my dosage dramatically. Good luck, keep well

hi i've been taking it for about 6 years now, only specific problems i've had is low blood counts (neutrophils i think) and being a bit more susceptible to coughs and colds but i think that is to be expected. i've never had any problems with sickness. i was first put on them to help me get off steroids and it worked i've only been back on them once for a short time and then my azathioprine was increased and i came off them again. x
