Welcome to LUpus Patients Understanding & Support (LUPUS) at HealthUnlocked!

I am sorry you are going through a very difficult time, health-wise. The uncertainty of not knowing generates a great deal of anxiety. On the one hand, you want to know; on the other hand, you are afraid to know.

I think your best plan is to ask your GP for a referral to see a lupus (systemic lupus erythematosus). I fecommend toy ask to see Dr David D'Cruz at St Thomas' Hospital, London.

SLE is known as "A Disease of 1000 Faces" because it can mimic almost every disease known! There isn't a single blood test that can "diagnose" you; and diagnosis can take a long time. Even with a lupus expert such as Dr Graham Hughes, it took 18 months before he gave me an official diagnosis! This doesn't mean I was not being treated! On the contrary. It means that doctors need to be careful not to make the wrong diagnosis.

Even if you do have SLE, today, the treatment is far better and there is every good reason to believe you will lead a normal life. The majority (90%) come off all medication after their condition has been stabilised.

Here is a paper written by Professor Graham RV Hughes you may find interesting. You will have to Create an Account to read the paper. I have send you a message to explain. If you need any help, just contact me with your details needed to register with LUpus Patients Understanding & Support (LUPUS):
