Yes my tongue is always sore and often the roof of my mouth. It often feels like I drank something really hot and burnt it.

Rafael, yes I get tongue ulcers, gum ulcers, I used to have them all the time, but now I get them when I'm not feeling great. I also had, what felt like, a grooved roof of my mouth but that has improved too. I hope you feel better soon and if my experience is anything to go by, they don't last forever. Take care of yourself. Oh and I found by avoiding dairy products it wasn't sore all the time. Dairy aggravated the ulcers

I have MCTD and CLL, and my tongue is often sore, particularly at night.

Mouth ulcers are common in lupus. Sometimes the dentist is able to recommend how to relieve some of the painful symptoms. They can also check your gums which can also become inflammed.

I hope your symptoms will improve.

With good wishes,

Ros

Hi Rafael, I have had problems with my tongue too. I have mentioned it to my GP, consultant and dentist and none of them had much to say. The dentist said it was the NRT Lozenges I was taking but I knew it wasn't as it started before I started on them and they actually helped. I have long stopped them and I still have the problem. It could be a side effect of the meds and I find that wine makes it worse.

I LOVE my wine so I continue to drink it, but carefully and I prefer to take the meds than go back to how I was for the sake of my poor tongue. I tollerate it by using gum and sweets to increase my saliva. The problem with the sweets is I tend to stick to sugar free and they can have a laxative effect. Occassionally it seems as if its white so I get an over the counter oral thrush cream.

As far as I understand it is common for us to get mouth ulcers and a sore tongue but you should get it checked at the GP or dentist. You may need your glucose checked, it may be thrush or on top of a normal SLE reaction you may have a bacterial infection of the tongue. If its new and you haven't mentioned it before get it checked but after that its trying to find something that helps. For me its keeping the mouth as moist as possible (increasing the saliva protects the teeth too).

Good luck
