15 days since my operation. I feel very tired think one reason difficulty sleeping and loss of appetite. Just thought I’d asked if anyone has any tips about how to get my appetite back ? Will it just return ?

I’m not doing much exercise other than walking around the house, starting to have a walk around the block now too.

thanks

Hi Sally789

It is not unusual to have a change or loss of appetite after lung surgery and this usually gets back to normal within time.

You may wish to try eating small, frequent snacks, including those high in calories and protein.

This link from Cancer Research UK may help in providing tips for loss of appetite: cancerresearchuk.org/about-...

This is the link to our lung cancer surgery booklet, where it provides timelines to recovery after your operation: roycastle.org/app/uploads/2...

It can comfortably take up to 6 weeks to start getting your energy levels back , sometimes longer, and it is advisable to pace yourself slowly and listen to your body, when you are tired you must rest. There is more details of this in our lung surgery booklet.

Sometimes just knowing that this is normal can help and hope you hear from others in the forum.

If you would like to discuss anything you can call our free phone nurse led helpline number on 0800 358 7200 Monday to Thursday 0900-1700 and Friday 0900-1600, alternatively you can email us at lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org

Hope you start to feel better soon.
