Hello, I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with lung cancer and pulmonary fibrosis. My Gran was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis last august and got a lung cancer diagnosis last week. We are awaiting onolocgy appointment hopefully this week, however was just wondering if anyone has any experience with having both and any advise of what to expect?
I don't believe they will offer radiotherapy as she was previously told at one of her appointments as to my knowledge radiotherapy causes scarring therefore this would make her pulmonary fibrosis worse . Think she may have got this pulmonary fibrosis from previous radiotherapy for breast cancer.
She is 79, already on long term oxygen therapy , my concerns are if offered would she cope with chemotherapy with the pulmonary fibrosis and would would if make her symptoms worse.
Sorry to hear about your grans diagnosis. The oncologist managing her care would be the best person to ask as he/she will be better to discuss her individual management given her history. He will discuss with her potential side effects of any treatment planned and the effect on her pulmonary fibrosis. You could suggest to your gran to write down any questions and any concerns she may have.If you would like to speak to one of the nurses please don't hesitate to call the nurse led Helpline Freephone 0800 358 7200
