Hello Margaret (sorry if that is the wrong name)

What happens next will depend on how you have responded to the treatment you have had, the specifics of your cancer and how you are feeling.

The oncologist should talk to you about what options you may have, whether you need further or maintenance treatment. In some situations the oncologists may recommend that you don't have any active treatment just now and they see you back in a few months.

You might want to take someone with you to the appointment. Sometimes two sets of ears can be helpful if there is a lot of information being discussed.

If you are having any problems like weight loss, pain or breathlessness do make sure you talk about these at the appointment. The oncologist may be able to recommend ways of helping you manage any side effects.

Do let us know how you get on and if you have any questions.

best wishes

AS I understand it, and what happened with my wife, is that the oncology team from the hospital should refer you back to the GP who should arrange for you to be contacted by both the Palliative Care team (usually a specialist nurse from your local hospice or McMIllans) and the Community Care Team (old District Nurse as was). These will then explain to you what care will be available to you for the future. We have found the Palliative Care team to be excellent.

Hi I am also waiting for follow up after finishing treatment of chemo/RT. I was informed that my scan would not be for about 6-8 weeks . This due to waiting for everything to become clear and settle down after RT. The waiting is the most difficult period for most people, and I have not had any side effects from treatment that had any impact on my daily activity's. Just hoping the RT has made a difference. Fingers crossed.

Best wishes

Kaz
