What is Mind Over Matter (also known as MOM)?
In this group, you will learn tips and tools to handle the big feelings that often come up after a cancer diagnosis and treatment. This 5-week group can help you deal with the fears, worries, and sadness that come up for many people.
Who can join?
Anyone who is diagnosed with lung cancer or caring for someone with lung cancer.
How long is each group?
Each group is 90 minutes long. It meets weekly for five weeks.
When will this group be held?
We are planning to start our first five week series in August or September. You can select your preferences below so we can consider that when selecting dates and times to begin!
Where? This group will be held virtually only using Zoom. If you have never used Zoom before, we can help you set it up before the group starts.
What can I expect from each week of the group?
Week 1 : The Mind-Body Connection- Learn about the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and body, including relaxation strategies to combat cancer-related stress.
Week 2: Our Values- Explore how we can make choices aligned with what is most important to us.
Week 3: Reframing-Learn how to use our personal strengths to gain a new perspective on challenging
situations.
Week 4: Power of the Pause-Learn how to intentionally stop and pause during times of stress.
Week 5: Making a Plan- Create a plan for managing tough situations using all the new skills in your toolbox.
Things to know about this group:
Since MOM is an interactive, small group series, we ask that you plan to commit to all five groups as best as possible.
While this group will teach skills for coping with cancer, it is not therapy or medical advice.
