What strategies are you using to breathe easier outside in the winter.

Some here are facing their first winter with their lung cancer diagnosis. Others may still be going through treatment now and need to make the trip from the parking spot to the door as painless as possible

Treatment causes injury to the lungs making it hard to breathe cold air. What do you do to make getting through the winter months easier?

I found wearing a mask during the pandemic actually helped with cold air and remembered when we were children, mum would wrap a scarf around our faces with a piece of tissue over our mouth (that was black by the time we got to school such was the pollution). breathing in warmer air can help. I was also surprised when I holidayed in Slovenia in February a few years ago that I was able to breathe in such cold temperatures presumably it was due to it being mountain clean air rather than urban polluted cold air I'm more used to.

I'm not undergoing treatments, but i have lost both upper lung lobes to cancer, and the remaing 3 have emphysema. I cover my mouth loosely with my winter scarf. It helps warm the air before it hits my lungs.

What helps me with the really cold air (I live in Minnesota) is to stay inside if 20 degrees or below. If 20 to 30 degrees I wear a mask or scarf around my mouth. It really does help when the air is warmer in my opinion.

I agree with the above. Also I keep track of the air quality and try not to spend much time outside when it is moderate or above.
