Naming our drugs-how does that happen?

Jokingly, I once started a webpage discussion suggesting that drugs were named by pulling random letters out of a bag of Scrabble letters or a Words With Friends game. One kind soul used that to explain how -mab described a monoclonal antibody (think Nivolumab/Opdivo). He went on to teach me that the suffix -nib means the drug is an inhibitor like afatnib which is used as a TKI inhibitor(also know as Gilotrif).
