A “lump” in the road

Well, after jumping over that sinkhole of lung cancer, I have approached another obstacle—diagnosed with breast cancer this week. My oncologist assured me it was not my lung cancer metastasizing. Will see a surgeon next week. Anyone else have both cancers?

So sorry to hear that you are having another bout with cancer. You have been through so much. You will be in my prayers for another full recovery from this one. We all have to be thankful for each day of life that God gives us here, and be ready to breathe our next breaths in heaven, totally healed of every pain, if He should decide to take us home. Stay positive and very hopeful!! I have been through multiple cancers, all of them primaries. It started with liver in 2002, and then right breast in 2004, ovarian in 2006, left breast in 2009, and now lung diagnosed in 2016. Each of them was successfully treated and the lung ca is currently stable. It is difficult to face at the time, but I look back and am grateful that medicine has changed so much and come so far!

Breast cancer is very serious, but also one of the cancers that has the most options for success!! Please keep us posted as you go through treatment - you CAN and WILL beat this!!

My breast is how I found my lung and thyroid - all primaries they say :(. I am sure since you are followed so closely it is early and treatable! You're stronger than you know....keep fighting the fight!

I started in 2015 with breast cancer which was treated with a lumpectomy. I was supposed to have radiation therapy as well, but they found a tumor in my lung during the simulation prior to treatment. The lung tumor was also cancer, so three months after the lumpectomy I had a lobectomy. It has been six years since the original diagnosis and I've had SBRT last June for a recurring lung tumor. Thanks to an excellent oncologist and primary physician who coordinate their treatment, I am still here. This cancer journey is unpredictable at best. Enjoy the good days and listen to your body. If this 79 year old woman can do it, so can you.

I had lung cancer diagnosed March 2018 two primaries one in each lung. Chemo, two surgeries and further chemo following surgeries. Scans every 3 months lungs all clear. Then they found on scan in March 2020 breast cancer. It was another primary so had lumpectomy and partial radiation. They didn’t do chemo this time as felt it would be too dangerous with the amount of chemo I had for lungs and because of COVID. Hormone positive and her2 positive. Just had mammogram and hoping all is well . Now just taking letrozole for at least the next four years., and ibandronic acid for 3. Wishing you all the best. You can do this!

Wow! You have quite a history. So glad you shared. I had stage 4 non small cell adenocarcinoma In 2013. I have been clear since 2016. Discovering the breast cancer due to my last scan. Talk to a surgeon on Wednesday and oncologist the following week.

Me, too. The lung cancer in 10/2010 then invasive ductile carcinoma in 10/2014. Fortunately the IDC was stage one.

Treatment was a lumpectomy and radiation, then I was on Tamoxifen for a while because of my osteoporosis. Tamoxifen helps to strengthen bones. Last summer they discovered that the Tamoxifen was causing deposits in my retina so they have switched me to Anastrazole.

Fortunately, breast cancer has a much better survival rate than lung cancer. Please keep us updated.

I, too, have had multiple primary cancers: 1993 melanoma(resected), 2010 breast cancer (had bilateral mastectomies and chemo)and 9 years of anastrazole), 2013 lung cancer (had R upper lobectomy and R middle lobectomy, now on Tagrisso and stable). Wishing you success with your treatments!

Cancer sure is sneaky huh? Well it came to test you again and like the first "sink hole" you will jump over this one also. Sorry you have to go through this again but it believe every trick the devil throws a me I swear I just get stronger. We all know the waiting is the hardest but once you get your plan from the doctor this will help. Karen in Minnesota

I had a primary brain tumor (stage 3 pineal ependymoma) a few years before my lung cancer. The lung cancer was a primary as well and not metastasis from the brain cancer. You’re kicking lung cancers butt so breast cancer will be a piece of cake 😉. Good luck and keep us posted!
