Execises for nerve pain?

I'm new here.

I had a lobectomy 2 years ago and was feeling great until a year later when I have what I now know is nerve pain. It is constant on my side/back/rib area. Are there exercises specifically to help? I just started taking Lyrica.

I did not have nerve pain (only numbness around scar area) after my lobectomy (not keyhole) in Dec 2010 but resumed my swimming in March 2011. I believe the stretching out of the body with the water supporting me and an activity that focuses as much on the breathing and coordination of movements helped my recovery no end. To start with, I just lay on my back and sculled my arms at the side then moved on to different strokes, increasing it by increments each time. By the June when I saw the consultant for my follow up I had achieved my 130 lengths that I was doing before my surgery. In time I increased this several fold.... and believe it has helped me mentally and physically over the years. In 2015 I was hospitalised with a chest infection and had no end of pain in my arm/top of shoulder and my hand wouldn't open fully (little finger/ring finger) and when I was sent for bronchoscopy I mentioned it at pre-op. the healthcare professional suggested it might be a trapped nerve and several months later that was proved to be the case - trapped ulna nerve at the elbow (although apparently it can trap at the neck). The pain was awful and I was given amitryptilene tablets which made me feel quite strange. some months later I had surgery to reposition the nerve and it has taken years before the hand (my dominant hand) has recovered. I think that gentle stretching exercises may well help release any compression as there is a natural tendency to tense up when we're in pain often adding to our problems - I know that with the pools closed, sitting over a computer desk most of the day, I've had aches like never before . hope you get some relief soon as pain can be very wearing... exercising can also serve as a distraction if you can do it.... good luck. blf.org.uk/support-for-you/...
