What does the KRAS mean to a lung cancer patient? Is this really a bad mutation? Do you die sooner?

I have the KRAS mutation and I'm doing pretty well. I'm currently Stable, off all treatment and celebrated my 4th Cancerversary back in March. There may not be any Targeted Therapies available for KRAS, however other standard treatment can be effective. I had chemo (Carbo and pemetrexed) and that worked well for some time. Later I did have progression and then moved to Opdivo with great results. I've been stable for almost three years now. My last infusion was in August 2016.

There are also some clinical trials for KRAS and that's something I may later pursue if I have progression down the road. I have Stage IV NSCLC and was diagnosed in March 2015.

Best wishes to you.

I was given 3 rounds of Taxol for my latest reoccurrence in my right lymph node where my lung used to be near my heat and I scan Tuesday to see if the Taxol took care of it and the cancer was 2 cm right side lymph node, I get 0.3 MM Mets they zap like 3 different times other then that the Taxol has literally wore me down, legs are like jelly

And hair gone and I’m just so sad and don’t know why, so lazy and att after 22 years of service surplused me because I’m gone 1 week every time I do treat ment so my boss said bye, I thought that was awful to do this in the middle of treatment and I thought I had rights!! So no more job and things are getting to the point I need to see someone. Thanks all for putting up with my sadness and I pray Tuesday I’ll be NED

Best wishes! Is this your first treatment?

I never had Taxol and I'm not very familiar with it.

Good luck with your scans.

I have no idea myself, but my oncologist at the outset said having some of the mutations was a good thing because then they could use the newer drugs on you like Keytruda.

I don’t know about that mutation. I have ALK and took targeted drugs.

All the best!
