My dad’s announcement
Lisa, your father was indeed quite a man , and quite the Dad! Treasure your memories together while he works on his next projects in Heaven. Love to you both and to your Mom, judg69
Lisa, what a wonderful and loving tribute to a life well-lived. You made your dad seem like a good friend, one I would have been proud to have. (We share the same taste in music.) I loved all that you shared and know you have made him proud. You and your family will continue to be in my prayers.
Hugs,
Judy

Every time we lose someone to lung cancer it hurts but some losses are tougher than others.
Very beautiful, Lisa. I am so sorry for your loss.
Lisa, what a wonderful tribute to your father. Such a special man. Hopefully, you can find some space to plant an Oak tree and watch it grow. My sincere sympathy to you and your family.
Thank you for sharing so much with us. You make us participants in your journey. I personally feel more validated as part of our great human family.

One of the most moving, loving, admiring obituaries I have ever read. I bet you wrote it, Lisa! A remarkable man with a remarkable daughter, wife & family. Inspiring beyond words.
Thank you so very much for your kind words and taking the time to read it! I did write it and I could have easily written more but I had to cut it down. I chose this exact portion of Psalm 71:1-9, 14-17, 19, 21-24 to be read at the end. The pastor ended up taking the last paragraph of the obituary that I wrote and followed it with that Psalm 71 at his service. I felt that Psalm could correlate the fight against cancer in honor of my dad. All my best to you!!!! ❤️
Thank you for your response, Lisa. I'll read the verses of Psalm 71 first chance I get. They surely will inspire me too.
I'm 75 & beginning my journey with lung cancer. I am very frightened -- not of dying but of the procedures needed to get full diagnosis & then treatments -- will it be surgery? Chemotherapy? Radiation? Likely all of these. And we're just preparing to move!
God bless!
My dad was frightened in the beginning too. But I’ll tell you something - everything he was afraid of turned out to not be as bad as he anticipated. The tumor biopsy - he said wasn’t bad at all like he imagined. The scans - not bad. The chemo is different for everyone. My dad did well with chemo but he was on Alimta and carboplatin. I think Alimta is an easier chemo, at least it was for my dad. Not everyone will find chemo a picnic and I can’t say how you will react. But my dad feared worse than it turned out for him. The worst for him was the taste change with foods he loved and the nausea a few days after chemo, but they have really good meds to control the nausea. The radiation my dad was scared of too. The IMRT to the chest tumor by his heart - he breezed right through it. He did do one tablespoon of Manuka honey 15 minutes before and right after radiation since it was close to his esophagus. He also breezed right through whole brain radiation and spinal radiation but I can’t say that for everyone. He was scared of the lumbar puncture but afterwards said it wasn’t bad at all. So basically my point is everything my dad feared it turned out his fear was worse than reality. So the easiest and most sane way to get through it is to take it one day at a time and try not to fret over it. You may just find out your fear is worse than reality and you worried for nothing. Not to say everything will be pleasant or easy but my dad learned to just go with it with the goal of getting through it with an end goal in sight of beating it. Sending you positive vibes and take it one day at a time!
God Bless
Lisa
