Plurodesis

Has anyone had a plurodesis procedure when having fluid problems on the lungs? Especially if you had general lymphoedema in more than one place. Trying to weigh up the risks / benefits of having it done (even if just one side). Thanks!

What happens if you do not have the procedure? Can your consultant seek advice from a lymphologist?

Well what happens is my current symptoms - I’m always out of breath. But the question is the risk of fluid ending up in more problematic places if I have a plurodesis. Of course they’re talking to the lymph experts but I wondered if anyone on here had past experience

I turned down pleurodesis because it is less than 50% successful. Instead I had ipc drains fitted which enabled my lungs to drain. I did this myself at home. My pleural effusion was due to cancer and was cleared up by chemo. However the doubt about pleurodesis still applies, I know people for whom it worked but I had so much fluid I felt it was unlikely to in my case xx

I hadn't heard that statistic... Drs are worried about fluid turning up in more problematic places if I have pluerodesis. I will google the drains... is it not invasive? Thanks for the reply

It is invasive but it is also very effective.
