My dr never told me anything about compression stocking which I just read about in these post. I am finding myself walking on my toes not being able to have my heel touch the floor. It almost feels like my ankle and shin will break if I try to put any weight on it. Any help will be appreciated. I would really like to be able to go back to work

If you have active cellulitis, don’t wear compression if you have it (I think you may not) Compression on an infected leg would be way too painful. There will be additional swelling.

Do you have lymphoedema in just one leg or both? Have you been referred to a Lymphoedema clinic - if not, ask to be referred - they will fit you with appropriate garments.

Antibiotics need to be taken for a minimum of two weeks duration.

It is a serious infection - forget work for at least a week - get a sick line from GP if necessary. Allow yourself time to recover. Where are you based?

You must stay in bed till the cellulitis has cleared up. Otherwise when you get out of bed fluid will rush into your leg and stretch the skin. The danger is that it then doesn't return to the same size as previously. That's what happened to me 30 years ago. So stay in bed till the infection is sorted and your leg has had a chance to go down. Good luck.

If you can't put weight on your leg, it may be worthwhile going to the emergency room for assessment - if your GP has put you on oral antibiotics you may need stronger medicine. And trouble putting weight on your leg could also be a blood clot - to be safe, either ring your doctor to check, or go to the emergency room for a thorough check. Cellulitis is serious - you want to recover as quickly and fully as possible - and get your mobility back!
