Good morning Hudson - it is most common for lymphoedema to develop within two years of treatment but there is a life long risk. At the moment no one completely understands the reasons why some people develop it and some do not although this is an area that is currently under research. We do know that the superficial lymphatics and even the deeper ones have no muscles or pumps of their own and are reliant on the movement of skin and the other muscles in the body - as we get older our skin becomes less elastic and our muscles less effective so it is possible that this has an impact.

My wife's arm is very and suddenly swollen and has had to go into hospital for this. They ran a Doppler scan and said she had a clot under her arm which was causing the jam and are now treating this so God willing this will help resolve the problem as it is treatable. I will keep you all posted .
