Hi All, I've had asthma for the past 45 yeats and used inhalers both brown and blue for 43yrs. In the last 6yrs I've been suffering with an irritated throat with a lot of white patches and the odd red spot or thread like lines on the roof of my mouth and back of my throat. I also suffer from tinnitus, which is high pitched and I think related to how sore/raw my throat is. Taking Paracetamol constantly seems to help but don't feel I should be taking these all the time. I have been for a camera down the throat to check for cancer but that came back clear, but they did say I had acid reflux so I'm now on Lansoprazole but that's not helping. So I'm wondering if this is caused by my inhaler, (currently using Fostair). Has anyone else suffered from this and found anything that helps? Thanks in advance

Raw/sore throat & Inhalers
Cannot remember what the white spots are called. Considering I'm 82 I'm not surprisedTry Strepsil they usually work, if not I'm afraid it's another visit to the docs
Hi, I had a similar experience with Fostair, I went on to try other inhalers because I was having these bothersome white patches with soreness and hoarseness even while using a spacer and rinsing out my mouth. It sounds to me like you might have oral thrush. I used to use Nystan drops or fluconazole tablets every 6 weeks. It cleared up and then reappeared again. When I was finally forced to go back on Fostair I started to gargle with a mouth wash - specifically Wisdom Fresh Effect antibacterial mouthwash straight after using the inhaler. It has worked wonders! I use it slightly diluted as I hate the sweet strong taste of most mouth washes. I haven't had any reoccurrence since I started . You may need to use Nystan or fluconazole or any similar oral thrush remedies to clear up the infection and then prevent it reoccurring by using the mouth wash.Good luck, I hope it helps
I used to get really bad oral thrush with fostair until I was put on a stronger inhaler that's one puff a day (severe asthma) I found Nystan was the only thing that helped.
