Clenil inhaler side effects

My 6 year old was recently given the Clenil inhaler to try for 8 weeks for his persistent cough. We have been trialling it now for 6 weeks. He is taking 2 puffs 2 x a day. It has worked wonders for the cough but after about a month he bizarrely started having sleeping problems. He’s never had trouble getting to sleep or getting back to sleep if waking at night but he’s had nights where he can’t get back to sleep for over an hour and half and is very distressed about it. Sleep problems is listed on the side effects but wondering if anyone has had anything similar?

Asthma itself can give significant sleep issues.

Have you checked the bedroom for items that may be irritating his lungs.

Maybe try a declutter and major clean up of his bedroom. Pull out all the furniture and make sure there is no mould. Do a high degree wash of all his bedding etc. Replace the bedding if in doubt.

If clenil itself is the issue, there are a wide range of inhalers, so your gp has alternatives.
