Hi! I use Seretide and like almost everybody else I struggle with the side effect - losing my voice, coughing and irritated throat. (Yes, I cleanse after meds.)
I see many people here recomand Fostair, and my question now is - does anyone have this side effect from Fostair? Trouble with voice and throat?
I really want to try something else then Seretide. I love to sing and it is no longer possible to sing and I even struggle just talking normal in my everyday life.
I'm new here and was told to "add an image to bring your post to life", so here is an image of the good old days, my pre-Seretide life

Hi,I use Fostair and have been for more years than I can remember and never really had an issue with it. I'm also a professional singer and ,pre-lockdown, gigged 3-5 times a week.I used to have a lot of problems until about 20 years ago,pre fostair, when a Dr told me I should be rinsing/gargling after taking my meds. Considering I have been on various asthma meds since I was 7,I'm now 52 and been in the game for 34 years,I thought I would have been told this sooner.
Best thing I can recommend ,because I know you cleanse afterwards, is to use a spacer as well as a good gargle when you are done. If you are suffering with your throat being quite dry, then steaming on a regular basis will also help.
Your experience with Fostair, and being a singer gives me hope. I'm seeing my Dr next week, and I feel more sure now that Fostair is a medicine for me to test out. I will also ask for a spacer, I haven't been useing that sence I was I child and forgot the benefit - thanks for reminder. Have been steaming, but the Seretide is a little stuck devil...
I think the Fostair with spacer, and keep on steaming will help me a lot.
Hi, I don't use either, I am using Flovent and Spiriva and have used many others in the Spiriva family of meds. I used to sing in a band in my 20s (I'm in my 40s now) and from all the years of using inhaled corticosteroids, they've ruined my vocal chords. I can't sing anymore. I have no range and always an slightly off key. I also lose my voice so easily now. I'm sorry I don't have a solution because it sucks but, just wanted to jump in to validate how much it sucks.
Hi 🌼 I'm sorry to hear that you can't sing anymore, that is so sad... The asthma already keep us out of many parts of society, so it's extra hard to also lose something as importan that the voice.
Both Flovent and Spiriva are new to me. I will bring all these names (and Fostair) to my Dr next week and talk to him what is best. It is importan for me to know all this for making best solution and try out, so thank you for your respond.
I have only been using Seretide, and that's a no go - many people telling the same, wish I knew this before...but, I'm so happy I found this page now and are getting help from "my people" and not only doctors without asthma saying "oh, yeah.. it's normal to lose voice, just deal with it".
Any of the inhalers I use seem to do that although my pulmonologist blames it on the type of asthma I have which is EOS Asthma. I have inflammation feom my nose all the way down to the smallest tubes in my lungs.
Hi Diane. Thank you for answer. I was just reading about the EOS now, sound difficult living with. I have used Seretide in many years, but I start thinking now - after your answer, because my asthma changed after I got emphysema, so maybe that has an extra effect on my throat. Another thing I can ask my Dr about coming week. I will however try something else than Seretide now, just to see if my voice gets better.
Think this is common, it's happened to me and a friend of mine. As well as coming here when I can I also go to a site where I pray for others and post so that people pray for me, it costs nothing and does not take up much time. accuratepsychicreadingsonli.... Sometimes we need uplifting emotionally and mentally as well as help physically. It now seems that I have vasculitis and am struggling with that too, waiting to speak to a specialist and of course it is all held up with this lockdown situation. When I was struggling to breath and was referred to a chest person it took them eight months to follow up the letter. Hopefully this won't take so long.
Hey I have been on this pump for a while, but have been noticing the exact same for the last few month!! Been really skeptical about going to the doctors as they don’t seem to be much help except saying I need asthma tablets which stronger steroids.
Just wondering how did you get on? And move forward from your last post
