Hi, Artwanna,

First, can you tell us what country you are in? And your age? It makes a difference in what kinds of help we can suggest you get. For example, in the US, you certainly need to see a pulmonologist and possibly an allergist, but you need to know if they accept your insurance. (Do you even have medical insurance? If you are a minor -- under the age of 18 in the US, you might qualify for free medical insurance from the government.)

A pulmonologist is a doctor who specializes in treating diseases and conditions of the lungs and breathing, so that's the one who can help the most in treating your asthma. An allergist treats allergies, but also treats asthma, because most people with asthma find that it is "triggered" or caused, by different allergic reactions. Since you mentioned in another post about feeling tired all the time, and having certain other problems, an allergist will help you figure out which things you are around that you are allergic to. You'll need to remove them from your environment, or dramatically control them, before you'll see some areas of your asthma improve.'

Write back and let us know where you are and your insurance status/age, if you are in the US, and we'll help you figure out your next steps.

In the meantime, if you are having serious trouble breathing, especially difficulty being able to talk, or it becomes very hard to walk even the shortest distance in your home, you may be having an "acute" or serious asthma attack. In that case, it's important for you to go to the closest emergency room (ER) at the closest hospital. By law in the US, they must get you stable, even if you cannot pay. DO NOT DELAY THIS! ASTHMA KILLS!!

If necessary, call 911.

Good luck,

Debbie

Does your allergist have you on any inhaled corticosteroids like beclovent, flovent, or budesonide?
