Hi. Im after just been looking over my blood results from 4 weeks ago. My ALT is 86. My GP did say my liver was a bit high but hes not worried so I thought no more of it. Recently I have a low grade fver (37.5) always. I seem to feel nauseous quite a bit aswell and am suffering with upper back pain. Not sure if these symptoms are part of it or im just over worrying. I am on eltroxin for an underactive thyroid and im on ovreena pill. Had covid and bladder infection two weeks before my blood tests so not sure if that was a cause of it. It is just with the symptoms now that im worried. is 86 a very high level to get?
Thank you.

Your ALT can rise when your body is/has been fighting an infection. Doctors will generally only become concerned if there is a long pattern of continued elevation and in cases of elevation three or four times the upper limit of normal and if other liver markers are deranged too.
An isolated elevation of ALT after fighting covid is probably quite normal and why your doctor isn't overly concerned. It would be a good idea to get bloods re-run in a couple of months to see if the ALT has reduced - particularly with a thyroid issue too. Just to make sure there is no pattern of elevation - yours is about double what it should be but in serious ongoing liver inflammation it can be into the 100's and even 1000's.
Get a retest in a couple if months and take it from there.
