lymphoedema blisters

Hi, the lymphoedema in both legs has been troublesome the last couple of days. Large blisters have formed then burst and have been leaking clear fluid for 48hrs. Is this usual for this condition? Any help about this development will be welcome. I'm due to see a specialist at the hospital soon but would like to know now if it is.

lthink you should see your doctor as soon as possible as I think you may have cellullulitis which is an in fection and needs to be treated with strong antibiotics. keep your legs up as much as possible, this can be very sore and best trated as soon as possible. Good luckfrom kellyanne

Thank you Kellyanne1947, thanks to all of you here, I'm beginning to glean a lot of useful info. Fingers crossed it isn't cellullitis and am trying to keep my legs elevated as much as possible but it's not easy as I'm my husband's carer (he is house bound and can't even stand without help). Got to get to grips with this horrible problem so I can get back to some degree of normality. I didn't even know Lymphoedema existed until a couple of months ago!! Good luck from Chrissie2811.

I think you may be suffering from Lymphorrea - which is leaking lymph fluid. This should be confirmed when you see your specialist but you really need to be seen by a doctor as soon as possible. Chrissie may be right about the cellulitis too, but even if you haven't got that now, with "open wounds" you are certainly at risk of infection. You should have the broken skin covered and once the wounds have healed, compression garments or bandaging to reduce the build up of lymph fluid in your legs - so it won't build up and leak through your skin. You might also need a course of antibiotics or a low dose of tablets that you take every day - I am on 4 x 250mg of penicillin every day. I am no expert, just speaking from personal experience, so please go and see your Doctor and at the very least, a nurse to cover the open areas on your legs. Good luck! ☺

Thank you sooo much Aliphant1964, I've not heard of Lymphorrea but will definately seek advice from my GP in the mean time. It's really horrible leaking like this (soaked clothes and even on my shoes! ) I can tolerate the swollen legs but this is really revolting and as you say could cause me even more problems. All the best and many thanks again.

Two or three years ago I was sat in my friend's kitchen having a cuppa and a chat and when I got up to go I noticed a pool of clear liquid on the floor under my chair. I was absolutely mortified! I burst into tears because I was so ashamed and embarrassed but my friend gave me a hug, got her mop out, cleared it up and made me go to the Doctor. Trust me, I do know exactly how you feel! I felt it was disgusting and I thought it couldn't have been worse even if I had wet myself! Luckily the gp knew immediately what the problem was, referred me to a leg ulcer/wound clinic and from there onto a Lymphoedema clinic. It feels like the end of the world, but you are not alone and there is help available! 😊

PS I was soaking through bath towels, my carpet and even sanitary towels wrapped round my legs until I got treated! I got incontinence sheets and put them under my feet at my Mum's house so I wouldn't ruin her carpet! Once you get treated the leg ulcers will dry up - mine took a few weeks - but after that my legs have not broken down since. Get the right help and you will be fine! Alison 😊

Sorry Chrissie! I am easily confused! Kellyanne1947 was probably right about cellulitis!
