Hi
I am new here.
Last year my wife and I were on a family holiday in the UK - Torbay and when I contacted our local surgery about something else, it was mentioned, I had not done a renal blood test. That was done and few days before we sailed back home, I collected the results.
That was the beginning of 4 months of various tests - mainly blood tests and consultations. I underwent a bone marrow biopsy late last December and saw my haematologist/oncology for results. Basically, I was told if I did not undergo any treatment, I would be dead in less than 3 months.
That day I started on Azacitidine injections as my main treatment - I am 73, nearly 74 years of age. The 7 days of treatment was fine, then I caught an infection. Very serious. I recovered. By the way, my wife and I live about 50 minutes from Jaén, Spain and my wife is a nurse.
Had another biopsy in July - still 30 blast. Added to my Azacitidine was another tablet called Lanvis (thioguanine).
I have had blood tests every month and my white cells are just under 2.50....red cells are just under 14 and platelets anywhere between 100 and 200.
I am surviving. I do have some side effects - arms ache for about 10 to 15 days after having the Azacitidine injections and my spine/shoulder blades ache. I do get tired some days.
Most days I feel great.
