Hi, I’m Debbie. I’m a Grandma. I found this site while researching pain and LDN.
I ‘ve experienced pain almost constantly for 30 years, beginning with sciatica-like pain and ranging from excruciating to what is now a constant “low-burn”. I was told to lose weight and exercise when I had been pain free for six weeks.
That hasn’t happened yet. Pain is always present anywhere from that localized hot-spot to the feeling of having my pelvis cleaved from the back. I’ve had flare-ups involving my feet, legs, neck and shoulder I also have moderate pain from osteoarthritis in my hands.
In 2014 a doctor noted “Fibromyalgia” in my record (without mentioning it to me) and when I discovered it some time later on the patient portal I asked about it. Awhile later I was taken off Zoloft (had been taking for about 10 years) and treated with Cymbalta plus Celebrex for pain. Cymbalta helps with depression and some pain. I didn’t think the Celebrex helped until I DIDN’T take it and found out that it does relieve somewhat.
I started taking Low Dose Naltrexone recently but seem to be developing a sensitive short-fuse. I’m generally a placid, agreeable person, so I am troubled by my increased irascibility.
I’m just trying to prepare myself for the next flare up. I’m instructed to take Tylenol for pain, and frankly, that just doesn’t cut it.

I have had Fibro - or all over body pain along with sciatica and other types of pain for 25+ years. Started LDN almost 3 years ago at 3mg, and have dealt with the short fuse (I call it inappropriate anger) issues too.
There are doctors who use LDN to treat depression with split dosing (half in the morning, half before bed). My doctor and I decided to try that protocol this summer. That helped the anger/anxiety/short fuse, but I didn't like the way I felt during the day. I I upped my evening dose to 2mg and that seems to be helping both with pain and with the emotional stuff. Sometimes we do have to adjust doses.
Flares will happen while taking LDN, they are usually less severe and don't last as long. You can talk to your doctor about Tramadol for flares, many doctors & pharmacists now approve of using Tramadol with LDN.
Thanks for the info, Michelle. I'm holding my breath as the weather changes (temperature drop today, rain coming tomorrow) and hope it doesn't trigger. For the time being, I'm using a little "Mantra" -- when I feel "testy" I'll remind myself, "A.N.T.S" which is supposed to stand for Automatic Negative Thoughts... and stomp on them before they get anywhere. Actually I'm now saying "Any" Negative Thoughts, because I'm just not gonna go there.
