Yes, the keto is just for a few days boost, then most of us will be back to lchf. But not wanting to take you away from this forum. All the best for the new year.

I hope you have more luck getting people to join you than I did, Hylda2 healthunlocked.com/lchf-die...

Well icicles and I are in, but where’s Awful Toad and everyone else got to? Too old to fill in food diaries and exercise amounts. Just want to try and drop a few of Christmas’s pounds.

I'm afraid this forum appears to have dropped right off again, I don't know where everyone has got to :(

The Damage Limitation thread that BridgeGirl has mentioned doesn't rely on food diaries, exercise, or calorie counting, it's just a group of people that want to see off the excesses of Christmas, following an LCHF way of eating. 11 people have already signed up and you'd be very welcome :)

I believe there was some unpleasantness between some members of this forum and it put many members including myself off contributing. A lack of admins and moderation meant that some members were not removed. I think The Awful Toad and a few others who wanted to become admins got nowhere so the forum has now more or less disappeared.

A lot of people on the weight loss forum follow LCHF so most of us stick with that but it would be great if we could get more members again.

It is a shame that all the hard work put in has come to nought and it would be nice to see this forum become what it should be.

It’s such a shame. Without this forum, TheAwfulToad , bigleg , Hylda2 , and others here, I would still be stuck in the 80kgs or more. I have been really struggling recently, but the health and strength, self esteem and pride I have found in losing weight this way has been enormous. I have sustained weight loss for longer periods than I ever have and eaten like a Queen. I want to shift a few kgs I have put back on in the last few months and which feel harder than ever to get back off. I would like us to revive this forum and find a way to make it a serious resource for LCHF life stylers. I was put off by images of (clearly not) LCHF foods and the opinions expressed at that time. Does anyone know what the problem was with appointing admins to this forum and how to overcome those hurdles?

I'm not one to contribute much as I can never think of anything to say, but I used to look forward to The Awful Toad and other sensible contributors. This was a great forum, and can be again. Let's all be kinder in 2022 and carry on "ketoing".

Originally I lost 1.5 stones on this forum which was a great help managing my Atrial Fibrilation. I managed to shed a couple more kilos which have reappeared over the Christmas period. I don’t want to try Keto as I think anything that needs special recipes is set to fail.

Hi Hylda2

Keto doesn't require special recipes or flours. Keto generally means eating no more than 20g of carbs a day. So it's LCHF with "measuring" to ensure lower carbs. Some people feel 2 or 3 weeks of Keto can be a good way to kick start a LCHF diet. Generally you can ensure you are eating less than 20g by being careful about what vegetables and fruits you eat, and also keeping an eye on dairy you consume for carbs.

dietdoctor.com/low-carb/how...

I don't like counting stuff so it's not for me. However, I think most days my carbs are below 50g and some days below 20g anyway, simply because I choose to almost exclusively eat foods with less than 5g carbs per 100g.

Sounds like you already know from your own experience what style of LCHF works best for you. Let us know how it goes and best of luck to you.

I will be around a bit more on the forum in January, but yes it's been very quiet here lately even though the person who posted all the high carb food pictures has now stopped posting.......

Take care. 🕊️

Well that’s a relief isn’t it. My daughter buys all sorts of Keto flour to make waffles etc! Why not just go without them. Glad your back. Hopefully AT will join us soon

Special diet, How about the timing. What is the time between dinner and breakfast? More than 14 hours?

Hylda2 profile image
Hylda2

Sorry, you’ve lost me. Keto seems to require special recipes, special flour etc. LCHF doesn’t require special timing, just that you start by avoiding anything obviously carbohydrate! Bread, biscuits, cake, rice - most things beige. Although not pork scratchings, they are to die for👍

I think sandybrown is referring to intermittent fasting/time restricted eating (e.g. 16:8) :)

You don't need to buy any unusual ingredients to follow a keto plan, just keep to the low carb foods you enjoy. I'm doing it for a week to help restart weigh loss.

Yesterday, I had two bowls of mushroom and celery soup with cream cheese; and a courgette, mint and goat's cheese frittata, plus a satsuma. Today I had fried bacon, egg and tomatoes; and steak and kidney casserole with sprouts and parsnips, and a satsuma. I haven't counted but I doubt either of those days would be above 20g carbohydrate. Tomorrow, I'll have bacon and egg again, then cauliflower cheese, with mushroom and leek in the sauce.

Hylda2 in reply to BridgeGirl

Well I would have to count the carbs in the parsnips I’m afraid.

Yes, there were probably 3 or 4 there, in a small portion - maybe 5.

Anyone can easily lay their hands on a copy of Awful Toads induction details. Kiki weight on Throid U.K. needs it.

Hi Hylda2

How are you doing with your post-festive LCHF?

Hylda2 profile image
Hylda2

Took it off, put it on! 😢 Have increased walking and stopped raiding the fridge for cheese. Always feeling hungry at the moment and a plate of cabbage not quite cutting in! 🙄

Professor-Yaffle profile image
Professor-Yaffle in reply to Hylda2

I'm going to try to be more active in the LCHF forum over the next few weeks and months. Hopefully we can all encourage and inspire each other.

Well done on the walking. There have been some lovely crisp clear days for walking recently.

I add more extra fatty meat when I'm not feeling satisfied - not everyone's cup of tea but I like a nice bit of pork belly or lamb shoulder; I keep both pre-baked in the freezer for hungry days. I defrost them, re-roast them and add them to the top of my evening soup - very satiating! Hopefully you find something to satisfy your current hunger.

Take care.

Sounds good to me. Would you believe salmon salad for Sunday lunch! 😢

I guess that's not traditional but I love salmon! 🐟🐠I'm having chicken thighs in creamy mushroom sauce with tender stem broccoli.
