Non scale victories

It's easy to think the scale and mirror are the only reasons we are choosing this way of eating. But I think, especially as most of us are getting older, that health should be the most important. Skinny people can have strokes, or develop T2DM. And fat people can be healthy, like my aunt who lived to 99 with in her own home all her faculties intact, though she struggled with her weight all her life.

So why not share some non-scale victories this lifestyle. I mean things unrelated to the your waist measurement or your weight, but other things you have found improved following this lifestyle. I'm thinking stuff like pain and inflammation reduction, mental clarity, mood improvement etc.

I will start. Hypertension, the silent killer. I was getting readings into the orange range, and now it's much better behaved. This was this morning's measurement. I've stopped taking it regularly, as the numbers seem good. Anyone want a used sphygmomanometer?

Your turn.

I love this post. For me keto keeps my epilepsy under control where medication didnt. Part of my epilepsy comes anxiety and depression. Which is a lot less under keto. I also have problems with slipped discs in lower back. Causes sciatica. As im losing weight this takes pressure off my back and does help reduce the sciatic pain. Also i have no bloating in my tummy atm with keto. I am getting a lot of positive benefits 😊

Thanks Tessa, you are a constant inspiration to me, doing the work you do with your condition.

I think keeping these benefits in mind can help us all when we just want to fall into the beckoning arms of crisps and chocolate.

Thank you badger. Im in awe of your weight loss journey and your willpower to keep at it. Im so tempted atm to reacjH for chocolate so ive put pots of nuts around the house so i gtab them instead! 🤣🤣

I'm a very average-built male, age 70, 5'9". With keto I've gone from 14.1/2 stone to around 11.3/4st, and from 38" waist down to 32". My BMI is now in the normal range, and my fat% is normal as well.

In terms of real-life, day to day benefits, I have a feeling of better mental clarity, and I can walk up hills easily, I can run up hills if I want to. My power to weight ratio is just miles better, less weight on my joints, MUCH lighter on my feet.

I also feel safer and happier. By that I mean because of all the natural foods I eat, the total avoidance of unnatural, fat-free whatever, excess carbs, fizzy drinks etc etc, I feel certain that my internal health, my cells, my blood, whatever goes on in inside, must be better than it was. I am eating what I was designed to eat, and that for me is THE key point.

I could never to go back to how I was, even though I wasn't hugely overweight compared to the average man. In fact I was pretty normal, but trouble is, the new normal isn't normal, it's overweight.

Thanks for sharing Cyrtis!

Yeah, that is such a true insight.

I have a friend who, when I told her I was trying fasting because I was worried about my blood sugar, she said "isn't blood sugar going up as you age normal?" Well, yes, but 😤

She went on to say that her weight (BMI in the high twenties I'd guess and waist almost gone) was about average, so she was satisfied with that. Again, yes but 🤪

Great post Subtle_badger,after being a yo-yo dieter for many years my reason to lose weight is definitely around improving my health.

Thanks flossie. Do you think the yo-yoing as stopped?

Yes, it might take me forever to get back to my weight off but that is ok. Really do feel that certainly for me LCHF is the way to go.
