Positive margins

At 38 I was diagnosed with stage 1 Grade 2 clear cell renal cell carcinoma. I had a partial nephrectomy but my margins returned as positive. I have been getting scans every 3-6 months to catch it when it returns but now insurance is now fighting my scans. Any advice on how to fight insurance and if I can’t get scans then how worried do I need to be that this will return?

Are you seeing an oncologist for this? If not I would make sure to start with seeing an oncologist. If it is advisable to get scans that often then they should be able to help get your insurance to pay. My oncologist prefers to keep scans to a minimum to avoid too much radiation. An oncologist may prefer to add preventive chemo or immune therapy to avoid a recurrence or possibly something else. Good luck. I will be praying for you.

I have only been seeing a urologist. I didn’t think to see an oncologist also. Thank you for your help!

You really need a oncologist to evaluate you...
