My boyfriend was diagnosed in July of 2018 and was told that he has 1 month to 6 left to live from the urologist. He had his left kidney removed just a lottle over a week ago in hopes that will by him some time. They also removed 2 lymphnodes that were affected but couldnt get 3 more as they were close to the aorta. As of tomorrow we see the ongologist to talk about other treaments and hopefully set up a schedule for that! After the surgery the urologist said that having the kidney removed might have given him atleast another year. We have hope that the teeatment will work and kill the cancer the reat of the way and give him many more years with our family.
Diagnosis: My boyfriend was diagnosed... - Kidney Cancer Sup...
Diagnosis
My wife mRCC Stage 4 since August 2012. She lost her left kidney and it spread to 5 sites.
Has been on one and only one TKI drug, Votrient for #68 cycles(months). (5.6 years). She was on the high dose of 800 mg until April 2018 from then on 600 mg. They cut her down because she is doing so well. It depends on the persons bodies response... She is the pride and joy of her oncology team. Once your on a TKI and it’s working it’s for the rest of life...CT Scan that was done on 9-14-18. I had results that night. Cancer remains STABLE. On new protocol of Votrient 600 mg. daily (from 800 mg. daily). It looks like we will stay on the new protocol.
Sweetangel where are you located? There are many people who are living with kidney cancer. Telling you your boyfriend has anywhere from 1 mo. to a year left to live just isn't accurate. There are many more treatments now. You may want to take him to see an oncologist who specializes in kidney cancer.
Actually, we just saw the oncologist on Monday and it was better news. They are going to do immunotherapy and his diagnosis is so much better. We believe he will kick it in the butt. Thank you all so much.
That is good to hear! You may also want to join the Smart Patients kidney cancer group. Look up smart patients and then when you join get in the group for kidney cancer. It is very involved and very knowledgeable. Also there are several groups on FB. Did you boyfriend have surgery yet? Can't remember. If he didn't there is actually a study going on that is looking for kidney cancer patients before they have surgery to try out two different treatment options.
Amen! You can never listen to a urologist, because they are just the surgeon. The oncologist will always give you more accurate information. They can be wrong as well because they are not God. I was told by my first oncologist that I might live a year or two. That was back in 2009. Thank you for your input oncowoman.
I agree Votrient can be a life saver!! Make sure they try that. Though you mentioned aorta. Votrient can really mess with your blood pressure at first that might impair.
PLEASE KEEP ON FIGHTING PRAY TO FATHER SOLANUS CASEY HELPED ME MAKE IT THROUGH 15 YEARS OF RCC AFTER BEING A FIRST RESPONDER ON 9/11/2001. I WILL PRAY FOR YOUR BOYFRIEND EVERY DAY. bECAUSE CANCER MAKES US FEEL HELPLESS, NOT HOPELESS WITH PRAY. JAMES
