I don't know if this is relevant on this blog, but I'll ask anyway. Two years ago I was diagnosed with kidney cancer and had a radical nephrectomy. I was recently diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease. Has this happened to anyone else?

Welcome. I have heard of this happening. I don’t know your situation. Stay strong.
Yes. I had my right kidney removed 2015. Did all my followups and in anout a year spots on my lungs showed up. I now have spot on my femur. Talking to Dr's as to when to start treatments. So many decisions.
It is certainly not uncommon for kidney function to decrease and kidney disease to occur with the loss of a kidney... one thing to remember is that the diagnosis of stage III kidney disease after surgery for kidney cancer is not quite as severe as a person with both kidneys having the same disease characteristics...
drink an adequate amount of water --- at least 64 ozs daily, limit consumption of soft drinks and high phosphorus content beverages and foods, minimize lots of protein in the diet, avoid highly processed meats and other foods, including hot dogs, luncheon meats, and smoked foods...
if you have good insurance and access to a nephrologist with some knowledge of treating persons who have had a kidney removed because of cancer by all means consult with them...
if you are overweight, loose that weight!! If you can exercise more, do that.... stay active, that will help your body to purge itself of toxins and make the most of each day....
watch the use of painkillers, avoid motrin etc use acetaminophen carefully...
I underwent a radical nephrectomy about 6 years ago. Stage 3 RCC. Currently dealing with Stage 3 kidney disease as well. I see a nephrologist that has put me on statins to protect kidney.
Radical nephrectomy for stage 3, Grade 3 RCC in 2016. Found due to ultrasound for enlarged spleen. Stage 3 kidney disease. See nephrologist. Nodules in lungs, salivary glands, thorax, thyroid, etc. thought was metastasized kidney cancer. Turned out to be lymphoma.
