I have an extremely sore upper left side under the rib cage. Hurts to bend, cough, etc. Is this the spleen? Any advice to control it. I’m going to have surgery in a month and don’t want to have extra problems.

Spleen pain?
Hi Sharron42
I’m not sure if the spleen can give you pain like this but your pancreas is also on that side. It’s probably worth a check up with your doctor just to be on the safe side. Pancreatitis is very painful so you might want to check that it isn’t that that’s causing you pain.
Hope it turns out to be nothing and your surgery goes well, next mo th.
Regards Janet
Personally I did have pain in my spleen from inflammation it typically happened before a drop in platelets, but when in doubt get it checked out! Hope all goes well.
I also get the same problem as yourself when my platelets get low, but recently I had gotten a few piercing pains again in my lower ribs on my left side, like something sharp was sticking into me.
I made a appointment with my Doctor and he explained what was happening. Like most of people with low blood counts from itp, we get sore muscles, aches and pains in parts of our bodies which is caused by inflammation. He said the muscles that are in between my ribs were inflamed and that was causing the pain. He said I just needed rest to recover and let my body heal itself. Strangely enough I have never got the pain on my right side.
Pancreatitis??? Make blood test. It will show you.
