When you say you were “referred to a specialist “ are you saying this is your first diagnosis of ITP? If so who made the diagnosis, primary physician. I was diagnosed by a hematologist in early 1990’s

Twice the size on your spleen isn't normal and I don't think it'sqq itp related. My sons platelets have been as low as 9. But they jumped up to 279. I'm scared to get another blood test. I noticed bruises last week on his back but then he was sick again so I think they went back up. The hematologist always feels his spleen to ensure its not enlarged. I think it may be a sign of a more serious thing. Have you had a bone marrow test?

Hi Lowest i have had is zero and i am still here and that was years ago. 21 is quite high for some people. Remember you can still function perfectly well with a count of 21, once you get your head around it. Take care. Nicky

Hello Mel000,

I was told by a haematologist that an enlarged spleen is not related to ITP. Please ask your haematologist or GP.

Your platelet count is fine so don't worry on that account. But as the others say it's not normal with ITP to have an enlarged spleen. By the way my count yesterday was zero.
