Itching
Hi, last week my answer to this would have been no but just the other day my son came to me complaining of an itchy tummy and where he had scratched was all marked pretty much like in your picture and still is now though he hasn't mentioned it again. Not much help I know but it might be connected
Yes, this is something that I have experienced frequently. It seems to go through phases - sometimes I don't itch at all, other times it drives me mad. When my platelets have been quite low I've been left with big areas of 'speckles' where I've been scratching. I was worried because I had read that itching can be a sign of liver problems but my liver function is regularly tested and there doesn't seem to be a connection. I find that applying itch cream that can be bought over the counter helps a bit.
Yes yes! I have it right now! You aren’t alone...another crazy tho g that we deal with!
Yes. When my numbers dipped below 20, I would itch like mad and my legs would be torn up. The itching would usually go away as my nos. increased.
Thanks so much! I was in a panic
Yup happens to me too when numbers go below 10/20. I try to avoid itching with moisturizers. I was in this scary situation too first time when i experienced it.
Here here! It was the first question my Hemotologist asked when I was referred to him. He said it doesn’t happen with everybody but it is a symptom he’s seeing more of. You should change your first post to ‘Newly diagnosed and SCRATCHING for answers’ 😉!
Now, when my daughter sees me scratching, she reminds me to use an open palm as oppose to my nails. She’s 6 years old!
Welcome newly diagnosed! You’re in good hands here. Wishing you and your daughter peace of mind and high platelets on this journey. She’s such a brave lil girl.❤️

yes, during the winter i get very dry skin and it itches bad. IF i scratch too hard i will get them. just be careful not to scratch too hard.
Thanks so very much. I feel so awful for her. I’m calling her hemo tomorrow because she is covered in bruises also, big nasty ones and she has asked me to take her back because she doesn’t feel right. Her next appointment is the 20th but she said she can’t wait until then. Being only 11 she must feel really bad to want to make the 2 hour drive and take the chance of being admitted again. She’s asked me 2 times now “ how do I know she doesn’t have cancer” so one her age shouldn’t be worrying about that or really even knowing about cancer. It breaks me into a million pieces watching her go through this! Thanks again
Oh sweet heart! You’re right, she shouldn’t be worrying about that. Brave girl she is! All she knows is what is appearing on her body and at 11 years of age, they are very conscious about it for sure. Keep reassuring her that it’s only a symptom of ITP and nothing more. Silly little platelets do that. It’s very normal. (platelets argue with one another just like siblings argue) At least that’s how I explained it to my kids. Hang in there mom! Gotta be strong and play it down for her. Simplify explanations as much as you can. Hope this helps in any way. Thinking of you both. ❤️
Itchy skin yes
I rub at night some warm honey and water with compresses it helps
Yes!...scared the crap out of me until I realized that I had scratched a little too hard and thatvwas the result.
Thanks everyone, well I believe the itching was related to her platelets being low. We had a follow up on Tuesday and her count was 13,000 and she was admitted and given IVIG again. Her hematologist told me this is just a band aid to get her level up enough to discharge her, which it did raise her to 26,000 and we came home yesterday. Now the side effects from the infusion is kicking her butt! Do y’all get side effects such as headaches, severe fatigue, stomach pain, nausea, eyes hurt to open, several hours after the infusion has ended?
Yes. I itch all over sometimes. Recently when my count was 6 itch was severe. After Rituxan and some steroid my counts are reasonable and itch is much less. I was also thinking contact dermatitis and changed detergent and that seems to have helped alot too. My itching is always worse in the evening and come to believe that is because my body defense is weakened at that time. I am also considering acquiring a doctor who specializes in immunology and allergy. But none of the doctors under my insurance treat ITP or autoimmune conditions. I am still looking for a specialist other than a hemotologist.
Here is a long shot idea. Skin gets dry and itches in the winter. Use some moisturizer. The itches will stop. I thought flees were biting me until I used the moisturizer.
Yes of course, but my symptoms is bruising first then it turn out into a rash petechiae skin on my legs..
