How was the bone marrow test? Painful?
I am being completely honest I found it painful the exact amount of bone marrow needs to be extracted I felt tugging and pulling and pain the wider picture I now it is ITP .
Great news! My father has had a total of 2 bone marrow biopsies. Did they find any blasts? There's a percentage they tell you as a result.
Oh no one mentioned blasts I am intrigued I am back at the hospital on 2nd August I will ask... I had the ivig drip also platelets at their best 210 with the ivig now dropped to 80 hey ho : ))))
Hi there. What do the blasts tell you? I had a bone marrow aspiration three months ago. I wasn't aware that it could confirm ITP, just that it ruled other things out and all that is left is ITP. Is this also your understanding? Thanks, still early on this journey and learning from you all.
So the blasts mean there are immature cells in the bone marrow (& that is bad, so to speak because it means they will never turn into blood components) Are you getting access to your CBC's at least? (Your complete blood count)
Hello. Yes. I'm getting CBC every visit and I will now ask for one marrow aspiration results.
Thanks!
Are only platelets low in your CBC? Or other blood lines out of range too? For example, hemoglobin, RBC, bilirubin, etc.
My neutrophils are very low. I've mostly been neutropenic for the last three months.
Back to the blasts:
If you have blasts in your bone marrow does that mean that you'd ITP is bone marrow based and therefore your ITP is not autoimmune? (My understanding of autoimmune is that this diagnosis tells you that the problem is occurring in your blood after leaving the bone marrow - that some of your 'defender cells' are attackingyour own blood cells - platelets in the case of ITP.
Is that right?
My hemotologist told me that my bone marrow is making the platelets but my immune system is attacking them so now it apperars I now have a week immune system at times I do ask questions other times I do not may ask I am pretty new to itp 6 months now and just take it day by day how low are your neurophils ???
How did they decide you had ITP rather than MDS, for example? When they did our bone marrow biopsy and aspiration, the results showed 3% blasts for my father. Blasts are immature cells that didn't turn into blood, from what I understand.
I did not ask any questions was told it was itp due possibly to my shingles and infection I had and maybe it is all lingering as stated I do not ask much as I do not want it to take over my life which I did get a bit obsessive at first it was all a stab in the dark and I know I am still learning about itp via this site it is amazing place to gain knowledge as you guys have mentioned "blasts " will ask about this thank you .
